OSTEOPATHIC APPROACH IN DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT
OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY SPHERE DISEASE

Thierry Leboursier is a Doctor of Osteopathy, member of the Osteopath Register of France, Head of the course of osteopathy for children, osteopath - obstetrician. Chairman of the Society of Perinatal Osteopathy, teacher of higher osteopathic schools (France).

 

Seminar Objective

At this seminar Thierry Leboursier shared his experience in ORL diseases treatment: he provided both diagnostic approaches and his unique correcting methods of ORL dysfunctions. The seminar focused on practical skills that allowed participants to master the techniques and apply them in their osteopathic practice.

 

Seminar Program

    Day 1

  1. General aspects.
  2. Knowledge of pathological mechanisms. Anatomy: tests, techniques quality.

    ORL – a true synthesis of osteopathic knowledge:

    • the role of osteopathy in the treatment of ORL pathology;
    • different diseases of throat and nose.

    Holistic concept:

    • modalities: general, regional, local. Venous drainage;
    • occipital bone - atlas axis «CV4 EV4». Reciprocal tension membranes. 
  3. Embryology of face and cranium – notes.
  4. ORL immune system.
  5. Nose.
  6. Nasal cavity and nasal mucosa: an overview, anatomy, physiology, nerve I (reminder), pathology, osteopathic tests and techniques, biomechanical and biodynamic basis.

    Face - biomechanics, biokinetics, biodynamics, maxillary and zygomatic bones, embryological membranous system, intraosseous treatment of sphenoid bone, frontal bone, “can't hook” technique, nasal bone, lacrimal bone, ethmoid bone.

    Day 2

  7. Face sinus.
  8. Derivatives of nasal cavities. Sinusitis (sinus and facial bones). Maxillary sinuses: associated lesion of palate and teeth (mouth breathing and development). Ethmoid cells. Sphenoid sinus. Nerve V. Diagnosis and treatment of sinusitis. Local osteopathic approach. Upper jaw: intraosseous and interosseous (scheme) “lift” and “spread” techniques. Malar and maxillary sinus drainage. Inhibition of sphenopalatine ganglion, pterygopalatine and maxillopalatine techniques. Fronto-nasal articulation. Vomerine pump. Sphenoid / vomer / maxilla / palatine bone axis and vomerine pump.
    Face: embryological techniques.

  9. Pharynx.
  10. Anatomy. Lymphoepithelial pharynx system: reminder. Oral cavity - amygdala – Waldeyer’s ring. Local osteopathic treatment. Occipital bone - atlas axis. Mandible pumpage. Hyoid bone. Superior aperture of thorax and upper ribs. Cervical vertebrae. Osteopathic techniques of Sutherland (Hoover) on anterior cervical fascia. 

    Day 3

  11. Ear.
  12. Anatomy and clinical examination. Eustachian tube, normal tympanic membrane.
    Physiology. Nerve VIII (reminder). Nerve VII (reminder). Clinical examination. Tympanic membrane. Audition. Pathology. Otitis. Otalgia. Osteopathic treatment. Temporal bone (intraosseous, interosseous and natural separation). Eustachian tube. Auditory ossicles. Venous drainage. Vestibular-vestibular axis in biodynamics.

    General osteopathic treatment.

    Liver: palpation - percussion - the elimination of stagnation - stimulation. Small intestine and mesenteric root. Superior aperture of thorax. Diaphragm. Dorsal thoracic joint (adrenal). Valsalva technique..
