The academic year at the Institute of Osteopathy traditionally finished with the awarding of diplomas to graduates. In 2014 for the first time in the institute history four groups got the diplomas and all of them were from the different cities - St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan and Yekaterinburg.

More than 70 students received diplomas from Dmitry Mokhov and became full members of the professional community of osteopaths.

The examination board noted that all students had the high level of knowledge and the quality of their graduation theses became considerably better in comparison with the previous years. Results from the graduation research works will be presented in the form of articles in the Russian Osteopathic Journal.

The past year was also marked with several significant events for the osteopathic community. In 2013 osteopathy was officially recognized as a medical specialty in Russia. On September 12, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation signed the order on including osteopathy in the list of specialties of higher medical education.

After osteopathy received the official status, the professional community faced the new challenges, for example, normative and legal regulation of osteopathic activities. The Osteopathy Coordination Council was created for this purpose. The first meeting was held in St. Petersburg on December 2, 2013. The council was headed by the director of the Institute of Osteopathy SPbSU & NWSMU n.a. I.I.Mechnikov, M.D., D.O., Dmitry Mokhov.

In January 2014 the North-Western State Medical University named after I.I.Mechnikov started professional retraining for those osteopaths who were previously educated at different osteopathic schools. At the same time, NWSMU established osteopathy chair for the primary training of osteopaths and teachers of osteopathy. The chair will begin its work in September 2014. Its staff will consist of the teachers from the Institute of Osteopathy.

In May 2014 according with the Ministry order Dmitry Mokhov became the chief non-staff osteopathic specialist of Ministry of Health.

One of the most important events for the international cooperation was the participation of the Institute of Osteopathy in the annual forum OsEAN – Osteopathic European Academic Network. During the forum participants from the Institute of Osteopathy met with the representatives from different international osteopathic schools and associations.

As a tradition, in June 2014 a scientific and practical conference “Osteopathy Open 2014” was organized. Leading international speakers Jean Louis Jacquet (France) and Tajinder Deura (Great Britain) shared professional secrets with Russian osteopaths.
