In October St. Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy celebrated its 15th anniversary. The history of our Institute started in 2000, when an academic centre of osteopathic medicine was founded in St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (now North-Western State Medical University n. a. I. Mechnikov). This academic centre was later renamed “Institute of Osteopathy”. Thus for the first time in Russia the state licensed education in osteopathy started.
In 2008 heads of St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and of St. Petersburg State University signed an agreement of cooperation in the sphere of osteopathy, and this partnership was called St. Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy.
During the last 15 years osteopathy was taught in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Ufa, Krasnodar, Vladivostok.

Nowadays, when osteopathy became an officially acknowledged medical specialty, the team of the Institute of Osteopathy started the work on regulation of the professional activity. Our lecturers work out educational programs and clinical recommendations in osteopathy. They are members of the Russian Osteopathic Association. Some of them are members of the board, others are heads of the regional departments of the organization.
The international Congress “Osteopathy Open 2015” held under the auspices of the Ministry of Health became a sort of synthesis of the work of the Institute. More than 450 specialists from Russia and 15 other countries, our partners and colleagues, took part in the Congress.
Nowadays, as 15 years ago, the team of the Institute of Osteopathy is united by a common aim—promotion of osteopathy and development of Russian medicine.
