Our lecturers, colleagues and students will remember the year 2016 as one of the most interesting and eventful. The events of the year were important not only for the Institute, but also for all the Russian osteopaths.

In March 2016 the Ministry of Health adopted a decision to establish a federal methodological centre in osteopathy at the premises of the North-Western State Medical University n. a. I. I. Mechnikov. Today the centre realizes scientific and organizational work in the development of osteopathic education in Russia. Among other things, the objectives of the centre are the implementation of the innovative technologies in the educational system, monitoring of educational programs, filing the list of organizations providing osteopathic education, and others.

In spring a new informational project started in our institute: a series of webinars “Osteopathy: doctor’s way” in which our leading lecturers acquainted their colleagues of different medical specialties with osteopathy. In total starting from April 2016 we held 4 informational webinars, and each time we received a lot of responses from the interested audience.

The publication in Russian of the “Workbooks by Francis Peyralade” became a big present for all the Russian osteopaths. This is the main work of the well known French osteopath, in which he put all his love to the profession and described his more than 50-year old experience in osteopathic practice. The first part of the workbook was published in the publishing house of our institute in April, and in total 3 of 4 books were published during the last year.

In summer 4 groups graduated from our Institute—18 (St. Petersburg), 19 (Yekaterinburg), 20 (Kazan) and 21 (Moscow). By tradition an official diploma delivery ceremony was held within the framework of the annual scientific event for the Russian osteopaths “Osteopathy Open”, which was held this year in a format of a scientific conference. In the new academic year five groups started their studies: in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Omsk and Samara.

In October a massage school started its work in our Institute. The school organizes courses of specialization profile and of skills upgrading, as well as original courses, beyond the scope of standard programs, and courses for experienced specialists.

One more important autumn event was an all-Russian conference “Current problems of osteopathy”, which took place in our Institute on October 25-26th and was organized with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. More than 100 osteopaths took part in the event. It is of particular importance that representatives of the largest osteopathic educational institutions entered in a dialogue for the first time.

In November the staff of the institute celebrated the opening of the representative office in the well-known business park “Krylatsky Hills”, modern and prestigious office complex with extensive infrastructure situated in one of the greenest regions of the city in the natural-historical park “Moskvoretsky”. Two large equipped lecture halls and administrative offices are at the disposal of our students and lecturers. We try our best to make educational process comfortable.

December also brought us good news. In accordance with the government regulation of the Russian Federation №1327 from 8.12.2016 osteopathy entered in the list of jobs (services) representing medical activity and slated for licensing. It means that clinics and private practitioners providing osteopathic care will obligatorily have to obtain a license for this activity, which will undoubtedly help to protect our profession from pseudo specialists.

In the end of December 2016 a unique issue called “Atlas of osteopathic techniques: biomechanical approach to the correction of somatic dysfunctions of cervical, thoracic, lumbar and pelvic regions” came out. The Atlas is the project of St. Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy. The authors are the director of our Institute Dmitry Mokhov and one of the leading teachers, head of the structural branch Dmitry Miroshnichenko.

In accordance with the tradition students and friends of the Institute saw the old year out at the New Year “Osteopathy Party” which this time was called “Stars of Osteopathy at the red carpet”.

The staff of St. Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy wishes its students, colleagues and partners a happy New Year and a Merry Christmas. We wish you new victories, vivid impressions and good mood!
