Facts about the Institute of Osteopathy
- The St Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy was founded in 2000, and in October 2020 it celebrated its 20th anniversary.
- The Institute is union of two higher educational institutions: the St Petersburg University Institute of Osteopathy, and the North-Western State Medical University n. a. I. I. Mechnikov Department of Osteopathy. Additionally, it incorporates the Institute of Osteopathy, an independent and privately funded institution of further professional education.
- The St Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy is the leading osteopathic school in Russia, with a constantly expanding network of branches currently represented in 8 Russian cities.
- In March 2016 the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation elected the North-Western State Medical University n. a. I. I. Mechnikov Department of Osteopathy as a federal methodological centre for osteopathy.
- The teaching staff of the Institute comprises over 70 specialists — senior medical practitioners, professional lecturers and PhDs.
- Under current legislation, graduates of the Institute are awarded residency diplomas or diplomas of professional retraining in osteopathy and specialist certificates.
- Since its foundation, over 1200 professionals have graduated from the Institute. Today they work in the leading osteopathic clinics in Russia.
- Together with the Russian Osteopathic Association (ROsA), the Institute of Osteopathy publishes Russia’s only scientific and practical osteopathy periodical — the Russian Osteopathic Journal, which is included on the list of peer- reviewed scientific periodicals recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission).
- The St Petersburg Institute of Osteopathy conducts research to verify the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment, with the participation of leading Russian scientists from a whole range of fields.
- The Institute takes an active part in the life of the osteopathic community worldwide: it is a member of many international professional organizations, and has signed cooperation agreements with leading schools of osteopathy. Each year it invites the best foreign specialists to scientific events held at the Institute.
- The Institute has a number of traditions, among the brightest of which is the Osteopathy Open, a congress held in the Institute during the White Nights period which welcomes over 500 Russian and foreign colleagues every year.
